Krasnaya Sloboda, known as a unique place in Azerbaijan, is located on the opposite bank of the Gudyalchay River from the city of Guba. This settlement is the only one in the region where the Jewish population has been preserved since ancient times. The history of the settlement dates back to the 18th century, when the first Jewish families arrived. Since then, the settlement has flourished, preserving its traditions and culture despite the centuries-old changes.
It is s a former Jewish synagogue and now landmark Jewish history museum, located in the village of Gyrmyzy Gasaba (or Red Village). The former synagogue building was erected at the end of the nineteenth century and is similar in design to a synagogue in Istanbul. The synagogue was the center of religious education.
The Museum of Mountain Jews is a museum in Guba, Azerbaijan, dedicated to Mountain Jews. Opened in 2020, it is located in the 19th-century Karchog Synagogue. It is the first and only museum in the world devoted to Mountain Jews.
