  Belem

  Venture out to the Belém, area filed with numerous cultural sites. Witness the marvelous Jerónimos Monastery, a perfect example of the Portuguese Late Gothic architecture, which was a home to the monks of the religious order of Hieronymit, before it was abandoned in 1833. See the famous Belém Tower, the symbol of Europe's Age of Discovery. Almost 500 centuries ago it was a starting place for the Portuguese naval expeditions, that led to huge amount of geographical discoveries, so this place is the true symbol of the Portuguese cultural heritage. Look at the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a tribute to the brave voyagers who many centuries ago established Portugal’s heritage all over the world.
