Then join a conversation with a Buddhist monk, offering insight into temple life and Buddhist teachings.
After the temple, the tour continues to Nami Island, a well-known destination famous for its tree-lined paths and seasonal scenery. Visitors can enjoy walking trails, public art, local food, and views of the surrounding landscape at their own pace.
Baekryeonsa Temple, also known as the White Lotus Temple takes its name from the surrounding peaks of Mt. Chuknyeong, Mt. Seori, Mt. Unak, and Mt. Cheonma, which together resemble a white lotus flower embracing the temple grounds. Baekryeonsa offers a tranquil retreat from the city and a rare opportunity to experience Korean Buddhist culture in a serene natural setting. Unlike most traditional Korean temples, its buildings are intentionally left unpainted, without the colorful dancheong patterns commonly found on temple architecture, creating a simple and calming atmosphere. Established in 1997, Baekryeonsa is part of the Jogye Order, the largest Buddhist order in Korea, and serves as a branch temple of Bongseonsa Temple. Visitors can also admire the temple's unique Daeungjeon Hall, which features a rare ceiling artwork depicting the Twelve Buddhas of Karmic Repentance, a sacred installation found in only a handful of temples across Korea.
Nami Island is one of Korea's most beloved destinations, famous for its picturesque tree-lined paths, scenic lakeside views, and beautiful seasonal landscapes. The island gained international popularity as the filming location of the iconic Korean drama *Winter Sonata*, attracting visitors from around the world. Today, Nami Island is a cultural and recreational destination where visitors can stroll beneath towering metasequoia and ginkgo trees, explore art installations, enjoy local cuisine, and experience Korea's natural beauty at a relaxed pace. With its charming walking trails, family-friendly atmosphere, and year-round scenery, Nami Island remains one of the most popular day-trip destinations from Seoul and a must-visit location for nature lovers, photographers, and K-drama fans alike.
