Two Portuguese fortress towns on the Atlantic, in one unhurried day out of Casablanca. Your English speaking driver/guide drives south along the coast and handles the parking and the timings, so the day is yours.
Azemmour comes first, a quiet white medina stacked above the mouth of the Oum Er-Rbia river, its lanes painted with murals and its ramparts looking out over the water. Then El Jadida, where the Portuguese City of Mazagan is UNESCO listed: a compact walled quarter built in the sixteenth century, with monumental sea bastions you can walk, the old Church of the Assumption, and the Portuguese streets around it.
You set the pace at every stop, and your driver/guide can point you to the cistern, the ramparts or a seafront cafe depending on how the day is going. Entrance fees are paid on the day. Return to your Casablanca accommodation in the late afternoon.
Your driver/guide will meet you at your selected pickup location at the scheduled time and will wait for up to 30 minutes after pickup time. If you experience any delays, please contact your driver/guide as soon as possible using the contact details provided before your tour. Prior to pickup, you'll receive your driver/guide's name, phone number, and vehicle details, making it easy to identify them upon arrival. Your professional local driver/guide will be happy to assist with luggage and help ensure a comfortable and seamless experience throughout your tour. Please note that this sightseeing tour cannot begin, end, or include stops at airports, ports, or train stations.
Wander a quiet whitewashed medina above the Oum Er-Rbia river, where Moroccan, Portuguese and Jewish heritage meet and painted murals line the lanes.
Walk sections of the old fortified walls above the river mouth for elevated views across the Oum Er-Rbia and the Atlantic beyond.
Enter El Jadida's UNESCO listed fortified quarter, built by the Portuguese from 1514 and still enclosed by its original walls. Walk the ramparts and sea bastions above the Atlantic, see the Manueline Church of the Assumption and step into the famous underground Portuguese Cistern.
