Our tour will include the following highlights: Mt. Kigali: Enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Mural Walls: Take a leisurely walk around mural walls to admire artist paintings and uncover the meaning behind them. Milk Bar: Experience Rwandese love for milk as we visit the Milk Bar. Witness locals sipping milk and partake in some milk tasting. Local Market: Explore a local market for a taste of fresh, local fruits, followed by a delightful local lunch. Water Taxi Ride: Take a unique water taxi ride to observe how locals commute from work to home. Kigali Genocide Memorial: The tour concludes at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you can learn about the tragic past of this country.
Early in the morning, embark on a journey to the eastern part of Rwanda to explore Akagera National Park, nestled along the border with Tanzania. This diverse terrain serves as a habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, and a plethora of bird species, including the rare shoebill stork. In the southern part of the park, the expansive Lake Ihema is home to hippos and crocodiles, adding to the rich biodiversity of the area. Ensure your camera is fully charged to capture the breathtaking moments and wildlife encounters in Akagera National Park. Later in the day, return to your hotel in Kigali, reflecting on the unforgettable experiences and the natural wonders witnessed during your exploration of this unique and captivating national park.
This morning, after enjoying breakfast at your hotel, we will embark on a journey towards Lake Kivu, approximately a 3-hour drive from the capital, Kigali. Lake Kivu is situated on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, within the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. It flows into the Ruzizi River, which further travels southwards into Lake Tanganyika. You'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquility and scenic beauty of Lake Kivu during a 2-night stay. Explore the lake by taking a boat ride to nearby islands, including Napoleon Island (named for its resemblance to Napoleon's hat), Mbabara Island where coffee and macadamia nuts thrive, and the majestic Peace Island, offering a peaceful and picturesque experience. After two days of exploration and relaxation at Lake Kivu, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kigali, marking the end of this 4-day tour of Rwanda.
