Just an hour and a half ride from colorful Marrakech, The Atlas mountains are like a different world with the cool, fresh mountain air. We will tell you all about the area with insights and interesting facts as we guide you through the gorgeous landscapes. You’ll see the red city walls of Marrakech give way to plains, different green valleys, gorges, rivers, and waterfalls. You will have a chance to enjoy many stops throughout our tour, including a visit to an original Berber house to learn about their ancient traditions. This Amazigh family will make a welcoming typical mint tea showing you how to make it according to their traditions. Finally, we’ll get to the last village where you will take a guided walk along the beautiful trails and villages to reach the spectacular waterfall.
Feast on a delicious lunch full of flavor with a local family, and after we’ll walk for half an hour back to the car and return to Marrakesh around 5 pm.
This tour includes pick up and drop off at the hotel or riad where you're staying. Having said that, some riads are inaccessible by car. If this is the case, we'll indicate a nearby point where you can be picked up, and at the end of the tour we'll leave you at a similar nearby point.
After meeting your 4x4 driver / guide at your hotel or riad, your day trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech will start with a drive south of the city through the Haouz plains to Agafay desert. From here, enjoy some off the beaten track drive to the lake of Lalla Takerkoust where you will stop to enjoy the view and take photos.
An optional 30 minutes camel ride will be your next stop at the slopes of the Atlas Mountains before you continue your drive through the mountainous tiny roads to Kik Plateau admiring the views of Berber villages scattered left and right.
Continue your Atlas Mountain journey through rough terrains to Imlil village, where we will leave our 4x4 and enjoy an hour moderate hike to ‘’Aroumd’’, a tiny Berber village located at the heart of Toubkal National Park, famous for its splendid views of Toubkal Mountain, the highest peak of North Africa ( 4 167 m / 13,671 ft high ). There is also a small waterfall the way not to miss, and surely your local guide will show you the way there.
After a delicious Berber Tagine lunch served by a host family in ‘’Aroumd’’ Village, descend back to Imlil, and enjoy a smooth ride back to Marrakech through Tahennaout, the main town in the region, where the weekly market takes place every Tuesday.
Your Marrakech to Atlas Mountains day trip will come to an end around 16h00 with a drop off at your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
