1Sun Temple
The Modhera Sun Temple, located about 100 km from Ahmedabad, is one of Gujarat’s most breathtaking architectural wonders, built in the 11th century during the reign of King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty. Dedicated to the Sun God Surya, the temple is designed so that the first rays of the sunrise once illuminated the sanctum, showcasing the brilliance of ancient Indian engineering. Get captivated by the grand stepped tank known as Surya Kund, adorned with hundreds of miniature shrines and symmetrical steps that create a stunning visual pattern. The Sabha Mandap (assembly hall) features intricately carved pillars depicting scenes from mythology, dance, and daily life. 2Rani Ki vav
Rani ki Vav in Patan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is far more than a stepwell, it is an underground architectural masterpiece. Built in the 11th century by Queen Udayamati in memory of King Bhimdev I, this seven level structure descends deep into the earth and showcases the Maru Gurjara style of architecture at its finest. As you walk down the stepped corridors, you will encounter more than 500 intricately sculpted statues of gods, goddesses, and celestial beings, including a remarkable series of Lord Vishnu’s avatars. The cool air and dramatic play of light and shadow create a magical atmosphere, especially during the morning hours. Perfectly symmetrical and astonishingly well preserved, Rani ki Vav offers visitors a unique experience of walking through history and is often considered one of the most beautiful stepwells in the world.
