Explore Hawke’s Bay by bike – a fun, easy SELF-GUIDED cycle ride to visit Hawke’s Bay leading wineries and choose a wine tasting or grab a bite to eat, before heading back to Napier and your start point.
This is a SELF-GUIDED ride - we will give you a map. Allow at least 3.5 hours for these routes with 1-2 winery stops.
NOTE: not all wineries are open everyday, please note winery opening days below.
Your route is on a dedicated cycle pathway (from 40km/25 miles approx. 2.5 hours cycling beside the Pacific Ocean to trails through farmland, orchards, river stop banks & estuarys.
Visit wineries along the way - you have 2 options for routes:
LOOP TRAIL 40km/25miles - wineries along this trail - Mission OPEN 7 DAYS, Church Road OPEN 7 DAYS, Urban Winery OPEN Thurs-Sun).
OR COASTAL Trail 50km/31miles return - wineries along this trail - Clearview OPEN Wed-Sun, Elephant Hill OPEN Thurs-Sun.
NOTE you MUST BOOK the wineries, they will always be busy (sometimes SOLD OUT) on cruise days!

Meeting and pickup
Your port shuttle bus will drop you off at the Napier isite (2km from the port). Keep an eye out on this ride - look to your left for some GREEN FLAGS which are outside our base. This is where you will walk to to meet us & get your bikes - a 5 minute, 650m walk.

Your tour starts by walking to our base on Marine Parade, Napier. 650m from your drop off point - Napier isite. You will see the beach coastal trail behind the isite, take this to our base (turn back towards the port) to collect your bikes. Check out the Napier pier along the way.

Your cycle tour starts at the Takaro Trails site at 26 Marine Parade, Napier. You will start with a tour briefing to determine how far you will be cycling on your route today. NOTE if you want to visit a winery PLEASE BOOK directly with them. Some days they are BOOKED OUT and you wont get a tasting. Get going and cycle down the coastal trail towards the spectaculer Cape Kidnappers which you can see in the distance. After 8km, you can either turn up the Tutaekuri River and head to Brookfields, Church Road (open 7 days PLEASE BOOK) or Mission Estate (open 7 days PLEASE BOOK) wineries OR keep following the coastal cycle trail across the Tukituki River via Black Bridge to head to Clearview (open Wed-Sun PLEASE BOOK) or Elephant Hill (open Thurs-Sun PLEASE BOOK) wineries. You choose, they are all around 22km/14 miles ride away from the starting point. YOU MUST return though so thats another 20-22km! We will give you a MAP to follow.
