Your desert adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle as you cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic views of mountain peaks, winding roads, and traditional Berber villages along the way.
Arrive at the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. Explore its ancient clay architecture, narrow alleys, and hilltop views while learning about its role as a former caravan stop between the Sahara and Marrakech. The site has also served as a backdrop for many international films and series.
Continue to Ouarzazate, once an important trading crossroads and later a key administrative center during the French period. Enjoy free time to visit the exterior of the historic Kasbah of Taourirt and learn about the city’s cinematic and cultural heritage.
As you continue south, admire the changing scenery as the High Atlas gives way to desert landscapes. Short stops will be made along the route for photos and panoramic views.
Arrive in the stunning Dades Gorges in the late afternoon. Take in the dramatic canyon scenery and unique rock formations carved by the Dades River before checking into your hotel. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and relax in the peaceful mountain setting.
After breakfast, depart the Dades Valley and head toward Tinghir to visit the spectacular Todgha Gorges. Walk beneath towering limestone cliffs that rise over 300 meters, carved by the Todgha River. Enjoy free time to explore the canyon, take photos, and experience the dramatic natural scenery.
Continue your journey through desert landscapes to Erfoud, a lively oasis town known for its date palms and fossil-rich terrain. This stop offers insight into life on the edge of the Sahara and the region’s importance as a gateway to the desert.
Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise dramatically from the desert floor. Mount your camel and trek across the dunes to your desert camp, stopping along the way to admire a stunning sunset. Upon arrival, settle into your private tent and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. In the evening, relax around a campfire with live Berber drumming under a star-filled sky. A 4x4 transfer to the camp is also available as an alternative to the camel ride.
Wake up early to enjoy the calm of the Sahara at sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, depart Merzouga and begin the long but scenic journey back toward Marrakech, passing through vast desert landscapes and changing terrain.
Stop in Rissani, the former capital of the Tafilalt region and an important trading center for centuries. If time allows, visit the traditional market, known for dates, spices, and local produce, offering a glimpse into authentic Saharan life.
Continue west through the Draa Valley, Ouarzazate region, and across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Enjoy occasional stops for photos and refreshments as the landscapes shift from desert to mountains.
