What to expect

From La Laguna we will take the public bus to reach the starting point of our hike. We hike on forest trails through Anaga Rural Park, where you will see the scenery and the way of life of this naturally isolated area. Its mountains are volcanic, formed by several eruptions between 8 and 3 million years ago. It is now both a protected rural park and an UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Reserve. The area is home to mammoth plants which don’t exist anywhere else on the planet. A diversified wildlife including more than 120 local endemic species. Some of the best examples of the Canary Islands' ecosystems are to be found among the natural habitats in Anaga. Laurel trees loads of moss, lichen and lianas will make you feel like you are exploring somewhere far more exotic than Tenerife! The area is also a haven for birds and butterflies. As one of Tenerife's oldest geological regions, Anaga has much to offer those looking to get off the beaten track. We will pass close to an indigenous hamlet where the ancient inhabitants of Tenerife lived. We will return by public bus to the central bus station in La Laguna. We'll walk an average distance from 5,5 to 9 km along the route; 3 to 4:30 hours.
