What to expect

The Tokyo National Museum houses countless cultural treasures, including Okyokan, a historic teahouse with over 280 years of history. Once a temple study room, this beautifully preserved building now offers an immersive dining and tea experience. Adorned with reproductions of fusuma paintings by master Maruyama Okyo, Okyokan provides an authentic glimpse into Japan’s past.

Your journey begins in the museum gardens, where you’ll enter the elegant Tohaku Chakan tearoom. Enjoy a meticulously crafted Edo-style dining course, served in exquisite multi-tiered Oju boxes, prepared by a seasoned chef with five-star hotel experience. Your meal includes seasonal Japanese flavors, complemented by hot or cold tea.

Following the meal, you’ll participate in a hands-on matcha-making session, learning the traditional whisking technique before savoring your tea with delicate Japanese sweets. Conclude the experience by admiring Okyokan’s timeless interiors before exploring the museum’s vast collection of national treasures.
