On the tour, you will have the freedom to spend as little or as much time as you wish at any of the locations.
We will provide you with an itinerary before the tour. The timings on this itinerary are purely there to be used as a guide for the day.
From 1st November to 1st March there will only be time to stop at three of the four locations, due to shorter opening times at Chepstow Castle and Caerleon during these months. You can deciede which three to stop at in advance, or discuss the options with your driver guide on the day
Please Note:
Chepstow Castle, Raglan Castle Tintern Abbey & Caerleon Roman Baths all have a cost for entry. However these are not included in the price of the tour.
Your driver guide will pick you up from any location of your choosing within Cardiff. After you book your tour, we will contact you to confirm where you would like to be met at the start of the tour. This will be where we will return you too, at the end of the day
This is the first stop of the tour. You will idenpendantly explore the oldest stone Castle in the UK, built on the banks of the River Wye in 1067
Leaving Chepstow Castle, we will take you on a short drive into The Wye Valley, and stop at our 2nd stop of the dat. Tintern Tintern is most famous for the ruins of Tintern Abbey, an 11th Century Monastery. We will stop for around an hour in Tintern to give you the opportunity to look around the Abbey, or Tintern itself. The choice is yours
Leaving Tintern, we will drive for around 25 minutes along the Wales / England border, up through the picturesque Wye Valley. There will be opportunities to stop and take photos of this beautiful part of the world if you wish, or you can just sit back and take in the scenery as we drive
We will follow the River Wye to the ancient market town of Monmouth. We will drive through Monmouth, passing the Monnow Bridge, one of only a handful of Gated Bridges still standing in the world
Approximately 30-40minutes after leaving Tintern, and driving through the Wye Valley and Monmouthshire Countryside, we will arrive at Raglan Castle. Here you will be able to independantly explore this Castle built across the 15th & 16th Century that was built more to impress than intimidate. Here you will see why Raglan Castle has been a popular tourist attraction for over 200 years
Shortly after leaving Raglan Castle, we will drive through the Norman village of Usk. Regarded as one of the prettiest villages in Wales, it is a regular winner of "UK in Bloom".
The final stop of the day will be historic Roman town of Caerleong Caerleon is a site of considerable archaeological importance as the location of a Roman legionary fortress. It was the headquarters for Legio II Augusta from about 75 to 300 AD, Substantial excavated Roman remains can be seen, including the military amphitheatre, baths and barracks occupied by the Roman Legion.
