National Heroes Square, formerly Trafalgar Square, is located in Bridgetown, the capital and principal commercial centre of the island-nation of Barbados. The square lies along Upper Broad Street and is on the northern shore of the Careenage ("Constitution River"), found directly in the centre of Bridgetown.
This historic feature is located in the heart of our capital city Bridgetown, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The screw dock (or dry dock) dates back to the 19th century and is the oldest surviving shiplift in the world. Construction of the dock was completed in 1893 and it served the vital purpose of raising ships for repairs, cleaning and maintenance. The dock had a lifting capacity of 1,200 tons and could accommodate quite large vessels in its 240ft by 46ft enclosure.

St. Mary's Anglican Church can be found at the western end of Lower Broad Street in the city of Bridgetown on the lovely island of Barbados. This distinctively beautiful church with its large red roof has a truly remarkable history. This old church building is situated right next to the Jubilee Garden, the one and only public green space in the city centre.
