This is an overlook of the Keanae peninsula and the town of Keanae in the distance. A restroom stop and a great photo opportunity for you. The next stop afterwards is just below which will take about 15 minutes to get to. Take in the amazing beauty of the whole area from above.
Drive from the main road to a remote black sand beach where kukui nuts, and black sand that's been ground down from the surrounding black lava rocks. Very little white sand is mixed in which makes this a great example of a black sand beach on Maui. You travel off the road to get to this location, showing you how the road can drastically change from highway to Old Hana highway looking roadway. Large bamboo forests on one side and a small stream used for locals to paddle into the jungle. This stream feeds this beach for thousands of years and makes it a perfect ecosystem to fish. You may find surfers and fishermen enjoying the area along with people spending time barbecuing on their time off of work. A hidden Paradise on Maui.
Is it the small town of Keanae with history since 1893 and 600 years prior. Mostly destroyed by a large hurricane in 1947 and then new homes built after that. An 1800s Church, and a few old buildings from the old days to see as remnants of the past. Taro fields and huge waves crashing on the shores. Mac nut brittle and coconut juice available from local vendors, a favorite for many visitors.
This is an overlook of the wailua valley, and the small town of Wailua, a paradise tucked away in this rainforest. Birthplace of kings of Hawaii s past. At this point you'll realize why people chose Maui to live on, a paradise tucked away in the rainforest. The next stop is a waterfall called Pua A Kaa which is about 20 minutes away driving distance.
Enjoy a refreshing dip in two waterfalls to choose from. Watch locals jump at times to entertain tourists. You can watch from the shore or join the fun. Benches and covered picnic areas with restrooms. The next stop is lunch which is about a 25 minute drive.
Stop for lunch at a favorite store called the Halfway to Hana store. Kailua pork sandwiches, cheeseburgers, cold sandwiches, hot dogs, Roselani ice cream, and banana bread are available while supplies last. This historical location has many high reviews, looking forward to having your review tell good things about this location to others. The next stop after this is the Keanae Arboretum, only 5 minutes driving distance.
See a family of painted gum trees, several types of palm trees, Nara trees, Queen Emma Lily, torch Ginger, and every tropical tree that can be imagined from all over the world for you to see. Several fruit bearing trees as well.
A quaint small town that is filled with local stores places to eat and home of all the surfers and wind sailers. Looking for a gift, plan this town for a few hours walk around on another day from 10am to 9pm
Amazing view of a favorite waterfall of the locals. Keep your phone ready to take pictures as we pass by. Most bridges are only one and a half Lanes wide and built prior to 1910.
A local favorite dipping spot for all the children of the area. A favorite location for the locals. You'll see why it's so fun to live in this little town called Keanae. It may be rural, but remember, the main town, Kahului it's only an hour and a half away. No gas stations here, no 7-Elevens, no clinics. Just friendly neighbors and happiness.
Great photo opp. One of our favorite waterfalls pass by
