The village of Arraiolos is one of the most typical villages in Portugal and the Alentejo region. Located just under 30 minutes from Évora, it stands out for its picturesque flower-filled streets and whitewashed houses. It is a must-see for lovers of local crafts, especially painted furniture, cork objects, and pottery. But the main attraction is the world-famous Arraiolos rugs, an intangible heritage of humanity that has retained manufacturing techniques since the end of the medieval period, a legacy of Portugal’s Moorish past. You can also enjoy a fantastic view over the cork oak forest from one of the few examples of Portuguese circular medieval castles.
