Plaza de Mayo The Plaza de Mayo is the oldest public square in Buenos Aires and has been the scene of many of the most important events in the city's history. The square is named after the Argentine revolution, which began on May 25, 1810. Around the square are several important buildings: the Cabildo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, where Pope Francis conducted mass for 20 years, the Casa Rosada, seat of the national government, the national revenue office (AFIP), the national bank, and the intelligence secretariat.
Floralis Named "Floralis Genérica" in homage to all flowers, this 20m-high, 18-tonne aluminum and stainless-steel sculpture dominates the Plaza de las Naciones Unidas. Unveiled in the year 2002, it was probably the world's first mobile public sculpture to be controlled by hydraulics and photoelectric sensors. The six steel petals open at 8am each morning, and close at midnight.
Recoleta Cemetery The Recoleta Cemetery is an eerily beautiful place, with shadowed walkways and towering marble mausoleums rich in Art Deco, Art Nouveau, baroque and neo-gothic architectural styles, with Masonic symbols and powerful religious iconographies. Over 90 of its tombs are listed as national historical monuments. The most visited tombs are those of Eva Perón and former Argentine presidents Sarmiento and Raúl Alfonsín.
Today we will visit an estancia (farm) located in the pampas so as to enjoy a perfect day in the countryside and to learn about the typical character of Argentina, the Gaucho. There, it is possible to ride a horse or to take a trip in one of the carriages available in the Estancia either before or after trying the typical Asado (barbecue) of Argentina together with some empanadas (meat pastries) and accompanied by some local wine and gaucho music and dances.
