It was constructed after the Great Fire of Rome and served as a grand residence for Nero until his eventual exile. The complex was renowned for its stunning architecture, innovative design, and lavish decor. Located just beneath the modern-day site of the Colosseum, the Colosseum was constructed after the reign of Nero using the same stone and some remains of the Domus Aurea.
