Ilha Grande has already been elected as one of the wonders of the state of Rio de Janeiro and in 2019 it became a UNESCO heritage site in recognition of its biodiversity and preservation of the Atlantic Forest.
Parnaioca beach is in the most preserved and remote part of the island allowing an incredible connection with nature. Trails that have as scenery the exuberance of the forest, beaches, rivers and waterfalls are part of this tour for those who want to know Ilha Grande in a unique way.
It is also possible to visit Praia do Aventureiro on this tour depending on sea conditions and availability of boats.
In front of the Church of São Sebastiao, located in the main square of the village
During our tour, we will visit the surroundings of the village.
The village of Dois Rios has a rich historical past that dates back to colonial times with the large plantations of sugar cane and coffee, headquarters of a maximum security prison and today there is a development and research center at UERJ (university of RJ) and opened its doors to tourism. It is possible to visit the ruins of the old prison, inside are the Ecomuseum and the Museum of Prison, both with curiosities about the island and its history.
Optional visit to the Museu do Carcere Praia de Dois Rios
In the center of town will be our meeting point, there is the Church of São Sebastião, donated by D. Pedro II in colonial times.
Praia da Parnaioca is our destination today. Here we set up our camp and we will also enjoy, that simple but delicious camp meal. With a little luck we will be able to observe one of the most spectacular sunsets in all of Ilha Grande.
Parnaioca is one of those incredible places where time seems to have stopped, the rhythm of nature that prevails, perfect to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to take a dip in the sea, bathe in a waterfall or simply relax
We return to Praia da Parnaioca for our second night
It is possible to visit Aventureiro beach and its postcard, the Coqueiro do Aventureiro, depending on sea conditions. If available, the boat crossing can be arranged locally on the day of the activity. Crossing Value Not Included: Typically R $ 100 (one way)
Today is the day to set up camp and say goodbye to Parnaioca, after a hearty breakfast we prepared to leave.
A stop to recover your energy and enjoy a little more of this bucolic village.
The viewpoint of Curva da Morte is one of the ways to relieve the hike and know that we are almost arriving from Volta to Vila do Abraão.
Walking through the trails of Ilha Grande is always rewarding, sometimes it gives us the chance to observe some wild animals, but the scenery of the Atlantic Forest alone is worth the walk.
