La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubande, 20 minutes from Liberia. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic.
Its water comes from the “white river” or “Rio Blanco” that finds its source in the foothills of the Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. The color of the water is just amazing, between blue and turquoise, which is explained by the presence of sulfur in the water. It’s definitely a must in this area!
We’ll start our hike through a canyon and inside the tropical forest. Most of the trail is next to the Blanco River, walking through caves and sometimes even swimming to go around big rocks that surround this place. (Not suitable for mobility impaired or children under 6 yrs)
It includes: Local guide, life jacket and admission fee for the waterfall plus transportation and lunch
Hiking to La Leona Waterfall is an exhilarating adventure through Costa Rica's lush rainforest. Guests can expect a moderately challenging trek that includes wading through crystal-clear streams, navigating rocky terrain, and immersing themselves in the breathtaking natural beauty of the jungle. Along the way, you’ll encounter vibrant flora, exotic wildlife, and the soothing sounds of cascading water. The journey culminates in the awe-inspiring sight of La Leona Waterfall, a hidden gem where you can cool off in the refreshing pool at its base. It’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike!
