Please Note!, We offer 1 tour per ship, so when booking please make sure you book the same time as your ship's arrival. You have 1/2 hour to get to your guide, waiting for you on the dock. The Fortress Louisbourg is a living ,working town from the 17th century. They have a bakery, eatery, blacksmith shop, stables and gardens. There is also a native display, as the french befriended the native people with trade and knowledge for furs and food. Blackwood Tours provides a unique tour for the Fortress, sometimes we can provide a french speaking guide if requested.

Pickup details:

We will meet you at the dock, you have 1/2 hour after your ship disembarks passengers to find your driver/guide. Your driver/guide will be wearing a Red shirt and jacket and holding our company sign. When booking please indicate which ship you are sailing on. We require at least 4 bookings to provide a tour.

    Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site

    Fortress of Louisbourg is a designated historical landmark of Canada.In the 1700's it served as a profound place of significance in the great struggle between France and Britian for the empire. Characters are dressed in colonial wear and carry on the daily lives of the people who lived there in the days of the 1700's. French is the main language spoken by the townspeople unless you need interpretation. After the Fortress tour you will be taken to the Louisbourg Lighthouse, the first lighthouse erected in Canada. On your way back, you will drive along the Mira River, cottage country, great for all types of water sports. The river consists of half salt water and half fresh water. You will pass over Marion Bridge, famous for its song, and a gathering place for concerts and family gatherings. Then you will drive through Membertou First Nation reservation, voted the #1 reservation in Canada for years in a row. Known for its social and economic developments as the Mi"kmaq comminity .
