We pass by the breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage site, Montserrat mountain, where the monastery and Basilica can be seen nestled halfway up the mountain.
As we journey into the Pre-Pyrenees mountain range, our route takes us alongside the Baells reservoir that supplys Barcelona with drinking water.
On the way to France and Andorra, we drive through a 5 km (3-mile) tunnel through the magificent Serra de Moixeró mountain range in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. We enjoy breakfast either in the Cerdanya valley or by the Baells reservoir.
We cross the border into France at Bourg-Madame surrounded by the stunning landscape of the Cerdanya Valley, with the Pre-Pyrenees mountain range on our east side and the Pyrenees mountains on our left. We take photos on the border and take a short stroll through the village.
Time and weather permitting, we make one or two more brief stops in France to stretch our legs and take photos.
Continuing our journey in France, we drive up our first Pyrenees mountain pass towards the high altitude mountain border of France and Andorra.
We drive into Andorra from France at the high altitude mountain border station. Traffic permitting, we make a stop to request the unique Andorra tourist passport stamp.
We enjoy for a short walk in Andorra's oldest and largest ski village Pas de la Casa to enjoy the crisp mountain air, magnificent mountain vistas, ski slopes and the shopping area that is most popular with French day tourists.
We make a stop at the highest mountain pass in the entire Pyrenees Mountain range, to enjoy breathtaking views of the Grandvalira ski area and the scenic landscapes and peaks of the French and Andorran Pyrenees. This stretch of the tour is often used by the Tour de France and La Vuelta cycle races.
We make some short stops as we drive down the mountain pass continuing on our travels through Andorra. The stops include scenic photo opportunity stops, shopping stops to buy souvenirs and visits to historic churches. We adapt these stops to suit your preferences and the weather.
We pass a delightful waterfall that cascades from the rock all year round and is especially impressive after rainfall or snowmelt.
We make a lunch stop at a typical ski lodge style family restaurant, with valley and mountain views and a selection of delicious Mediterranean food on the menu, including vegetarian dishes and various cuts of meat grilled on a wood stove.
A highlight for many history and culture lovers is our visit to the the Sanctuary of Meritxell which houses the image of Our Lady of Meritxell, Andorra's patron saint and one of the renowned images along the so-called Marian Route, which connects four other important sanctuaries in Spain and France: El Pilar, Montserrat, Torreciudad and Lourdes
We can make a short photo stop to soak up the views of Andorra la Vella, the capital city of Andorra. Situated between steep mountain slopes, this is the highest altitude capital city in Europe.
Our last stop is in Andorra La Vella, the capital of Andorra. We guide you along the main shopping street where you can experience the daily life of the Andorrans. There is a photo opportunity at the fast-flowing Valira river, a unique Salvador Dali sculpture and we end the walking tour in the city medieval quarter, seeing the St. Esteve of Andorra church and both the ancient and new parliament building.
We end our exciting day of travel which has taken us all the way through Andorra, from the highest border to the lowest, when we cross the Andorran/Spanish border back into Spain. Now we invite our guests to get comfortable with blankets and cushions for the drive back to Barcelona where we drop off at the same place as the pick-up.

Our guests can relax with comfortable blankets and cushions and are welcome to nap during the drive back to Barcelona - or as always, the guide team are more than happy to provide additional information about many historic and cultural aspects of the region.
