    We pick you up at your Tarragona cruise ship or Sitges Hotel and drive to the center of Tarragona to start your tour.

    Our first stop is the "Balcony of the Mediterranean" which has magnificent views of Tarragona's El Miracle beach and Costa Dorada coastline. On this part of the tour your expert guide takes you on a walk around the main attractions of Tarragona's Roman city, which in ancient times was named Tarraco.

    Roman circus chariot racing circuit. Next we experience Tarragona's Roman circus where thrilling chariot races took place cheered on by 30,000 ecstatic spectators. You guide takes you to see both the outside and inside of one of the best-preserved circuses in the Western world. We also visit the Praetorium building to enjoy roof-tops views of the Roman and medieval city area.

    Roman amphitheatre. We start by literally walking in the footsteps of Roman gladiators in the arena of the well-preserved Roman amphitheatre. Here your guide brings to life how 14,000 spectators experienced the gory to-the-death battles of gladiator fighting.

    Antiga Casa Del Consolat Tarragoni

    Medieval Tarragona. Your guide takes you a short stroll through Tarragona’s charming medieval town where many remnants of Roman history are still evident. Here we might stop for a refreshment break on a lovely plaza with a back-drop of Roman walls.

    Catedral Tarragona

    Tarragona Cathedral. On this walk we pass by Tarragona’s impressive medieval cathedral featuring a gothic portal. The cathedral was built on the remains of the religious site dating back to the Roman Empire.

    Murallas de Tarragona

    Roman city walls. We finish the walking part of the tour at the Roman city walls, built in the 2nd century - and the oldest Roman construction still conserved outside Italy, the wall originally ran some 3500 metres. Today, around 1100 metres are still intact and border the present day Tarragona medieval quarter.

    We break for a snack lunch, which guests can choose to have in the medieval quarter - or in a picturesque setting outside the city. Lunch can be adapted to suit the guests’ wishes and weather. (Meals are not included in tour price.)

    Scipio's Tower, Roman tomb. After being picked-up by our mini-van driver, we drive outside Tarragona along the Costa Dorada coastline on the route of the old Roman road, Via Augusta. Here we pass by the 1st-century funeral monument, Scipio's Tower, which is the most famous tomb in the Tarragona region.

    The Roman quarry of El Mèdol. Next we drive to the El Mèdol Roman quarry outside Tarragona to see where many of the huge stone blocks for the structures in Tarragona’s Roman city were quarried over 2000 years ago.

    Pont del Diable

    Roman Aqueduct. We end our exciting journey through time and Roman history by driving to the soaring arches and arcades of Tarragona’s spectacular Roman aqueduct, the Pont del Diable, (Devil’s Bridge). We can actually walk on the remains and your expert guide explains how the Romans were able to build this amazing structure that brought fresh water into Tarraco’s sewers, baths and fountains.
