This 4-day adventure is the best of wildlife safaris in Uganda, offering you the opportunity to spot creatures from Uganda’s myriad of natural wonders. See the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, catch a glimpse of the tree-climbing lions, and venture into the natural wonderland that is Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve, famous for its numerous species of trees and primates.
You’ll be picked up from Kigali Airport or downtown Kigali and driven to Bwindi National Park. The picturesque 4-5 hour journey to Uganda takes you through Ruhengeri in northern Rwanda, crossing into Uganda via the Cyanika or Katuna border. From there, the drive continues through Kisoro or Kabale town before arriving at Bwindi National Park. Reaching Bwindi in the early afternoon gives you the chance to enjoy optional activities like hiking, canoeing, or exploring the local community.
Today is a special day, featuring the gorilla safari Uganda is known for! After breakfast, you'll head to Bwindi National Park for a briefing on the gorilla trek. The presentation will outline what to expect during the trek and how to approach the animals safely. A national park guide will assign each visitor a gorilla family to track, and then your adventure begins. The trek can take 3 to 8 hours, with an average of 3 to 5, depending on how far the gorillas are in the forest. As you venture into the lush vegetation, encountering these incredible creatures is truly unforgettable. After the trek, you'll return to the lodge to relax, enjoy dinner, and settle in for a well-deserved night's rest.
We’ll begin the journey in the morning from the Bwindi National Park area, heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive will take us along the Kabale-Ishaka-Bushenyi Road, showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of southwestern Uganda and its lush tea plantations. Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, we’ll hop on the Kazinga Channel boat trip for a chance to spot hippos and elephants.
After breakfast, we’ll head to Kalinzu Forest for an exciting adventure tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Kalinzu Forest is a prime spot for chimp trekking in Uganda, offering visitors more than a 50% chance of spotting these fascinating animals. With some luck, you might also encounter one of the six other primate species that call the forest home, such as the colobus monkey, olive baboon, or red-tailed monkey. After an exhilarating morning of wildlife encounters, the trip concludes with a drive to Kigali or Kampala/Entebbe, which takes about 6 to 7 hours from Kalinzu Forest Reserve.
