Altun Ha, meaning “Rockstone Pond” in the Maya language, was once a bustling hub of trade and religious activity. Archaeologists believe that the city reached its height between 200-900 AD, with a population of up to 10,000 people. As you walk through the expansive site, you’ll feel a sense of awe, knowing that you’re standing on the same ground where the ancient Maya once lived, worked, and worshipped. The city’s location made it a key trading center, with goods such as jade, obsidian, and exotic feathers flowing through its markets.
