Chefchaouen, or "Chaouen" as it is often called by Moroccans, is a popular tourist destination because of its picturesque blue color, visible from far away and even more dramatic up close. The name Chefchaouen refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town that look like the two horns (chaoua in Berber) of a goat. There are approximately two hundred hotels catering to tourists who flock here from nearby Tangier and Ceuta. You will love wandering the narrow streets, seeing the blue-washed homes and their splashes of color from flowers and street art. There are also charming cafes to sit at and people watch.

What to expect

You will be picked up between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM and will travel in air-conditioned comfort to Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous Blue City. Highlights of the spectacular Blue City include Arab-Andalusian traditional culture, food, arts, and architecture. Enroute, you’ll view the spectacular Achahad Dam and Rif Mountains. At your request, the driver will stop to let you enjoy the landscape, capture incredible photos, or pick up a bottle of olive oil.
Arriving in Chefchaouen at 12:00 PM, the first stop is at a panoramic view of the city. Once you arrive in the heart of Chefchaouen, you have free time to discover the area and spend four hours as you please. You may enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, which we can recommend, Then you can visit the main square and watch local people go by, stroll nearby green hillsides to the scenic Ras El Maa Waterfall, or discover Plaza Uta El-Hammam, where the amazing 15th-century Grand Mosque sits. This mosque and surrounding structures were built by Jewish refugees who alongside Muslims escaped Spanish persecution and fled to Chefchaouen. Somewhere between 4:00 & 5:00 PM, your driver will pick you up and return to your starting point in Fez by 7:30.
