This safari starts with a breakfast-to-go in the café next to our main office. We pick you up in time at your hotel in and around Arusha. Departure for Tarangire National Park is around 8.00 am. We will be on the road in a 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser for about 2 hours. Already this drive will enchant you.
We will spend the whole day on game drives. Tarangire NP is known among insiders for one of the largest elephant populations in the world. It was David Rechsteiner, one of Bernhard Grzimek's closest collaborators, who persuaded Tanzanian President Nyerere to establish the park in the 1950s. The park owes its name to the Tarangire River, which meanders through the entire area from north to south. It is the main source of water in the region and attracts many animals, especially in the dry season from mid-July. The hilly landscape with the huge baobab trees against the blue sky is simply breathtaking. In the dry season, huge herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen here. But also considerable herds of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu or the rare oryx antelope come to drink at the river. If you are patient enough, you may even see leopards. They have the best living conditions here. Sometimes you can even see them in the trees.
In the early evening, before the sun sets, we return to the campsite where we will prepare everything for the night and meanwhile our cook will prepare a wonderful dinner under the starry African sky.
Today we start early for another breathtaking adventure. After a hearty breakfast, we pack our stuff and stow our luggage in the back of the Land Cruiser.
Down in the world's largest perfect caldera (collapsed volcano) live about 30,000 large mammals, including the highest density of predators in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtakingly exciting place to see all the BIG FIVE: Lions, Leopards, Buffalo, Elephants and there are still between ten and 15 specimens of the endangered black rhinoceros, whose population in the 1960s was still over a hundred animals. In addition, zebra, hippo, wildebeest, hyena and other birds such as flamingos on Soda Lake, geese, storks, vultures and more live in this wonderful crater. The large animal migrations in the Serengeti also pass through the Ngorongoro Crater. A spectacular lunch picnic awaits you. While you eat, you are surrounded by beautiful scenery: swamps where hippos wallow and acacia trees full of birds and monkeys.
In the late afternoon we start our return journey to Arusha, where we should arrive shortly after sunset, around 6.00 p.m.
