The Mardi Himal and Khopra Ridge Trek is a relatively newly opened route in the Annapurna region. It is a 17 days trek where you can explore Mardi Himal and Khopra Ridge. Similarly, the trek also takes you to the Khayer Lake and Poon Hill for sightseeing. Mardi Himal and Khopra Ridge Trek difficulty are moderate. Beginners with normal fitness level can complete the trek easily with appropriate exercise a few weeks before the trek.

Mardi Himal and Khopra trek gained its popularity a few years back. Meanwhile, the trek one can explore the grandeur of nature, landscapes and culture of Nepal. This trek lies in the Annapurna region of Nepal and ACAP permit and TIMS card are necessary for the trek. Mardi Himal Base Camp is situated at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level. Similarly, the altitude of Khayer Lake is said to be 4,500 meters above sea level. But other sources also explain that the height of Khyare lake is 4,827 meters above sea level.

    Pashupatinath Temple

    Pashupatinath temple is a highly revered temple of Kathmandu valley. There are a lot of places to see around Pashupatinath temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple offers wonderful spiritual experiences and surroundings. It is situated 3 km northwest of Kathmandu on the banks of the Bagmati River, including many holy areas Deupatan, Jaya Bageshwori, Gaurighat (Holy Bath), Kutumbahal, Gaushala, Pingalasthan and Sleshmantak forest. There are around 492 temples, 15 Shivalayas (shrines of Lord Shiva) and 12 Jyotirlinga (phallic shrines) to explore. It is also a cremation site on the raised platform along the Bagmati River, where the last rites of Hindus are performed. The total time for Sightseeing around the Pashupatinath temple will be about two hours.

    Boudhanath Stupa

    The Stupa is belongs to Buddhists. It has great architectural values, ancient Buddhism philosophy and the Historical aspects. This Stupa is made up in a Mandala shaped area and has a giant dome. It is the center hub of Buddhism in Nepal and is surrounded by hundreds of monasteries. Lichchavi rulers renovated the staple during 8th century, which has made on the shape of a Mandala. This is one of the most popular holy sites for Buddhist followers inside the Kathmandu valley. It is one of the important artefacts of Kathmandu valley. The total time spent at this temple will be around one and a half hours.

    Swaymbhunath

    The Swayambhunath temple is one of the holiest Buddhist Chaityas in Nepal, residing in the western part of Kathmandu valley. Swayambhunath also known as ‘Monkey Temple’. This is the best place to see the entire city, as it is located in the top of the hill. Buddhists and Hindus both perform and worship here. There are a lot of small temples and monasteries to see around Swayambhunath temple. The wonderful views from the Swayambhunath temple are wonderful and it has huge significance as well.

    Drive to Pokhara

    At 06:30 AM: Have your breakfast at the hotel and be ready for your drive to beautiful lake city Pokhara. Pokhara is about 200 KM far from Kathmandu, it takes Approx. 6-7 hours of driving to reach there. you can explore the lakeside area and take a rest. You will keep your extra baggage at the hotel in Pokhara.

    Drive to Kande, Trek to Deurali

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we will move toward, Kande to start our trek. the route from Kande is a good one and very few trekkers choose to start the trek from here. The trail is good, first slowly up, then a bit steeper to Australian Camp, then after an early lunch slightly downhill to Pothana and the ACAP / TIMS checkpoint. The place is scenic with the panoramic view of Annapurna range and Pokhara valley. The trail further winds through the rhododendron forest to the mountain pass called ‘Deurali’. it is a gradual walk up to Deurali.

    Trek to Low Camp

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we will move towards Low camp; Trekking along the excellent trail enjoying the grandest perspectives, you will appreciate the trek. The trail gradually climbs through the rhododendron forest following the ridge. You will mainly be walking from grassland with the great view of Mt Fishtail and Mardi Himal seems a lot nearer. You get yourself closer to clear blue sky with a perspective on layers of Himalayan lower regions and clearing valley towards the south. If you are lucky enough, you may get a chance to have glimpses of rare animals like Himalayan Thar, Spotted Deer, Musk Deer, Snow Leopard, etc.

    Trek to High Camp

    At 08:00 AM: Beginning at the Low Camp, we will trek directly to the High Camp today. Leaving the Badal Danda behind, we will proceed for the Mardi Himal edge. We trek tough towards high camp leads through the Mardi ridge providing the majestic views of Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre. After climbing through the Rhododendron timberlands we will arrive at the Middle Camp. After a few hours of walk, we will reach High Camp. The high camp offers a perfect viewpoint of the mountains. From here the mountain perspectives are dazzling.

    Trek to Forest Camp

    At 05:00 AM: we will wake up early in the morning and move towards the base camp to see the sunrise. The first steep climb will take about 2 hrs to the ridge top which is marked as MBC (Mardi Himal Base Camp) at an altitude of 4500 meters above from sea level. after visiting MBC we will return back to High camp. After breakfast, we will move forward for Forest camp from High camp. Even though the scenery is stationary, season and sunlight make it different and interesting.

    At 08:00 AM:Today the trail descent about 1600m through the shade of the forest, and out onto the terraced fields. Here, as we make our way along the banks of the Mardi Khola from the hill-side village of Siding, down through the lovely fields, past the simple farms and over the ‘interesting’ bridges, there is no doubting this is indeed the idyllic Nepali countryside.

You will traverse amazing views of the beautiful rural landscape, terraced field, farmland and high mountains during the journey in Annapurna foothills. Tadapani to Landruk is the most exciting part of Annapurna base camp trek, Annapurna circuit trek and Annapurna luxury lodge trek as well as other short and easy trips in Annapurna area.     At 08:00 AM: We will have our breakfast in front of Annapurna south, Hiuchuli and Majestic Machhapuchhre mountains before starting our second-day trek towards Bayali Kharka. The trail passes through the beautiful landscape at first the oak and rhododendron forest then the landscape changes to green pasture lands. We will slowly gain our elevation before reaching the Bayali Kharka. The trek takes 5-6 hours. Overnight at Bayali Kharka.

    At 08:00 AM: Today’s trek starts with flat terrain first and then continuing down and going up towards the Khopra ridge which is our destination for the third day we will walk through the ridge watching the amazing landscapes around us. We will see Dhaulagiri in front of us and Annapurna Fang, Annapurna south, Hiuchuli and Nilgiri at the north part of our trek. The trek takes 5-6 hours of walking. Overnight at Khopra.

    Visit Khayar Lake and Back to Khopra

    At 06:00 AM: Today we will start our early morning hike towards Khayer lake. It is the day trip where the lake is situated hidden on the laps of the Annapurna Himalayas. After reaching the lake we will spend a few time over there and return back to Khopra. The hike duration is 6-7 hours today. You can enjoy the magnificent lake and marvellous peaks surrounding the lake in this hike. Overnight at Khopra.

    At 08:00 AM: The fifth day of our trek starts after breakfast. The trail today is all going downwards. The trail passes through the Oak and bamboo forests before reaching the wheat, barley, mustard and buckwheat fields of swanta village. The trek duration is 5-6 hours. Overnight at Swanta village.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast at the beautiful village on the shadows of Dhaulagiri, we then move more down towards Ghorepani. The trail t Ghorepani from swanta is, first we will go steep down to cross the river and the trail starts to get steeper as we go towards the sikha village and Ghorepani deurali. The walk takes almost 3-4 hours. Overnight at Ghorepani.

    Trek to Ulleri, Drive to Pokhara

    At 05:00 AM: Wake up early morning and hike towards the viewpoint Poon hill. Poon hill is the second most popular destination for sunrise view after Kalapatthar. More than 15 peaks can clearly be visible from Poon hill. After sunrise, we will be back to Ghorepani for our breakfast. After breakfast, we will start to hike downwards towards Ulleri. The trail passes through the beautiful rhododendron and oak forest. It takes 3-4 hours trek to reach Ulleri and we will drive to Pokhara from Ulleri village on the same day.
