On this full day tour of the British sectors on D-Day, we will visit the following sites: Pegasus Bridge, Hillman strongpoint, Sword Beach, Gold Beach, Arromanches/Mulberry Harbour, Longues-sur-Mer Gun Battery, British War Cemetery at Bayeux. At most sites there will be some free time for you to take photos, use restrooms or grab a coffee.
I pick up from all hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, gîtes, airbnb's in Bayeux. Other locations are possible, please ask.
I will pick you from your accommodation in Bayeux or other location by prior agreement.
Pegasus Bridge and Horsa Bridge Learn how glider assaults by men from the British 6th Airborne Division captured the bridges across the Caen Canal and Orne river.
Hillman strongpoint This fortification was part of the German defence, positioned behind Sword beach on high ground. Learn how elements of the British 3rd Infantry Division overcame this obstacle.
Sword Beach The Eastern landing beach of the invasion was to be assaulted by the 3rd Infantry Division. Hear about the German defence system and the British plan of attack that would smash into them.
Gold Beach We visit the second British landing sector and see how the men of the 50th Infantry Division were able to break through.
Arromanches Here we will see the remains of the Mulberry artificial harbour.
Longues-sur-Mer Gun Battery This large German gun battery still has its original artillery pieces in place.
British War Cemetery at Bayeux Time for reflection at the British War Cemetery, final resting place and memorial for 6452 soldiers.
