KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT / ARUSHA TOWN

    1 stop
  • 1

After your arrival into Kilimanjaro International airport, your driver-guide will transfer you to Arusha. Tucked into the foothills of Mount Meru, Arusha is known as Tanzania’s safari gateway town due to its proximity to many of the country’s major national parks. Its pleasant temperate climate is ideal both for coffee-growing and for relaxing prior to a safari. Your first night is spent in Zawadi House, a boutique lodge, where you’ll receive an informative briefing about your forthcoming safari.

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK AND NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

    1 stop
  • 2
    Lake Manyara National Park

Morning departure for Lake Manyara National Park. Positioned at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, this beautiful park has a diverse range of habitats. Dense, lush ground water forests shelter troops of baboons and blue monkeys, while elephants and Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions inhabit acacia woodland. Buffalo, giraffe, impala and warthog can be found on the grassy plains, while Cape clawless otter, klipsringer and dik-dik are only some of the more elusive residents of this magnificent park immortalised by Hemingway in his “Green Hills of Africa”. At the centre of the park is a soda lake. The thousands of flamingos are undoubtedly Manyara’s most spectacular avian resident but more than 350 other species of bird have also been recorded. At the southern end of the park two sets of hot springs, Maji Moto and Maji Moto Ngogo, boast water temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius.

NGORONGORO CRATER AND SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

    1 stop
  • 3
    Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we descend 610 feet to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive and lunch at the hippo pool picnic site. The largest unbroken caldera in the world, you’ll soon see why Ngorongoro is considered to be one of the natural wonders of the world. Dotted with water-holes, the crater floor is one of the few places where it is possible to spot all of the “Big Five”, sometimes even including the highly endangered black rhino. In the afternoon, we’ll make tracks for the vast plains of the Serengeti. Famous the world over, the Serengeti covers more than 14,000 sq. km, and is home to one of the highest concentrations of big cats anywhere. Lions are common sights but no less thrilling for that, particularly if you are fortunate enough to see them tracking the migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra. Leopards, too, are frequently seen, as are their smaller relative, the cheetah.

  • Day 4

    SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

    1 stop
  • 4
    Serengeti National Park

Today you have a full day for game drives in the Serengeti. Your camp is located in the middle of the savanna, near to the river Seronera, which is the main water source for all the animals living in this part of the park. This is a particularly good spot to watch for predators: leopards prefer to lie up in the branches of the acacia trees that overhang the river while lions prefer to rest in the shade of the rocks. The Seronera area is also one of the best parts of the reserve to catch the annual migration of the wildebeest and zebra as they move in search of calcium-rich new grass. The animals are on the move between December and mid-June, and the wildebeest calving takes place in February.
