Mardi Himal Trek is located eastward of the classic Annapurna Base Camp which was officially opened in 2012 for all. This trek is a hidden gem spectacularly situated at the base of Mardi Himal and the impressive Machhapuchhre.
The richly diverse terrains of Mardi Himal take us across the densely forested areas leading to the high rocky mountain trails. The trail goes along small winding paths, through magical rhododendron forests until we climb out of the forest at an elevation around 3,300 m. The landscape changes quite abruptly into a rugged high mountain landscape, with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

Drive half an hour Banskot in Pokhara-Baglung highway and commence the trek at Banskot (1100m.). After an hour climb, we arrive at the beautiful hamlet of Kalikasthan (1600m.) from where we will have beautiful views of mountains and the surrounding villages and then descend to Hemjakot (1500m.). Hemjakot is a beautiful village lying in the north just 19.5 km away from Pokhara. We then take a trail to Dhampus (1170m.)- a small Gurung village, descending with breathtaking mountain views and experiencing the local rural culture. After having lunch at Dhampus, continue ascending to another beautiful hamlet of Australian Camp at the altitude of 2100m. The trails from Australian Camp are pleasant, easy and gradual ascending to Deurali (2142m.) Via Pothana. Deurali itself is a viewpoint which provides a scenic view of Fewa Lake on the right and beautiful mountains on the right.
Wake up early today to view the beautiful sunrise and mountain views. After breakfast, walk along the forest. The path between Deurali and forest camp (2550m.) doesn’t have any tea houses. Along the path, we will see the majestic Mt. Fishtail and Mardi Himal which is right in front of you while passing through the grassland. As we climb higher into the mountains we start getting a better view of the valleys in the lower region. We will also walk through forests filled with rhododendron flowers. In this trail, many rare animals can be seen such as Himalayan Thar, Spotted Deer, Snow Leopard, etc. After the long journey through the forest, we will reach Forest camp where we will have our lunch and then continue walking another hour to Rest Camp for the night stops.
The trail from Rest Camp gently ascends approx. 2 hours to Low Camp ( 2990m.) then another hour to Badaldanda. Badaldanda is a nice place to have the beautiful mountain views. The trails from Badaldanda are quite easy to climb on so we won’t face many difficulties. Leaving the Badaldanda behind, we will walk along the ridge of the Mardi Himal. We can view the beautiful mountains including Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre on the way. Climbing through the rhododendron forest for an hour and a half we will enter the middle camp. As we head forward, the tree line gets vague which is covered with rhododendron bushes. Daphne, the national bird of Nepal, is usually seen on the way to High camp. Our trek might get more interesting if we get a chance to see the bird.
Wake up early today and start hiking for about 4 hours to Mardi Base Camp. Mardi Base camp is situated at an altitude of 4500m which is the highest point of this trek. The distance that we will cover today is a bit more difficult than previous days. We will be ascending to a higher altitude. The walk is longer compared to other days and the path also gets rocky and uneven at some point. When we reach the top of the Base camp, we will be astounded by the snow-capped mountains and natural vegetation. We also get the amazing view of many mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Mardi, etc. After exploring the base camp and making long-lasted memories we will retrace back to Badaldanda.
Badaldanda is itself a viewpoint from where we can see beautiful mountains and landscapes. After breakfast, we retrace back on the same route gradually descending to Low camp. The trail from Low Camp diverts to the east through the forest steep descending to Siding. The trail is unique and different from the earlier one. Kalimati situated at an altitude of 1700m is a small beautiful ridge from where we can also see the beautiful mountain views, farm lands and the valley. We will have our lunch here and walk down to Lumre for an hour then drive an hour to Pokhara. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have farewell dinner and share the experiences about our trek.
