- [ Hells of Beppu :別府地獄めぐり ]
Beppu Onsen on Oita's east coast, is one of the most famous hot spring towns in Japan. It produces more hot spring water than any other place in the country, and the view of the townscape with plumes of rising steam is striking. Beppu is especially famous for its “hells,” (jigoku), hot springs that reach over 100 degrees Celsius. Although they are too hot to soak in, each has a different character.
- [ Yunotsubo Kaido 湯の坪街道 ] at YUFUIN
Yunotsubo Kaido Street runs through the center of the popular hot spring town of Yufuin, leading from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrinko. It takes about 20 minutes to cover the distance without lingering, but there are enough interesting shops, cafes and galleries to merit an hour or two of strolling.
- [ ‘KOKONOE “YUME” OTSURIHASH’ ]
is opened in October 30th, 2006. It is 390 meters long, 173 meters high, 1.5 meters broad and it is the highest suspension bridge which is only for walkway in Japan.

10:00-10:30 < nature view > Kokonoe dreaming Big Bridege, 1208 Tano, Kokonoe, Kusu, Oita *Entrance Fee￥500(≒3-5 USD)/adult KOKONOE “YUME” OTSURIHASH is opened in October 30th, 2006. It is 390 meters long, 173 meters high, 1.5 meters broad and it is the highest suspension bridge which is only for walkway in Japan. Right front of this bridge, you can see ‘Shindo-no-taki’ or ‘Medaki’which are selected as ‘100 beautiful waterfalls in Japan’. Beyond the bridge, thegreat forest of Narukogawa-Keikoku(the headwater of Chikugo-river) spreads and you can enjoy the attractive view of each seasons. Also, you can see‘Kuju-Renzan (mountain ranges)’ such as Mimata Mt. and Waita Mt.in the distance.This beautiful 360-degree-view is “walkway in the sky” worthy of its name.

3Yunotsubo Kaido
11:15-14:00 < lunch and free walk > YU-NO-TSUBO Shopping Street Yunotsubo Kaido Street runs through the center of the popular hot spring town of Yufuin, leading from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrinko. It takes about 20 minutes to cover the distance without lingering, but there are enough interesting shops, cafes and galleries to merit an hour or two of strolling. The buildings lining the street are low-rise, and mostly traditional in appearance. Mt. Yufu rises above the street, adding to the picturesque setting. It is a nice place to wander and sample some local delicacies, coupled with a walk around the lake and a relaxing soak in one of the area's many hot springs. *If you have the optional paid tour guide, he or she will guide you. If you do not have a tour guide, please feel free to explore.

14:30-16:30 < guided > Beppu "Jigoku Meguri" Hells Tour, 559-1 Kannawa, Beppu, Oita *close-17:00 *Fee￥2200(≒15-20 USD)/adult The "hells" (地獄, jigoku) of Beppu are seven spectacular hot springs for viewing rather than bathing, displaying steaming ponds of various colors, bubbling mud pools and other hydrothermal activity. The hells are presented to visitors in a rather touristy fashion which may not appeal to everybody. Five of the seven hells are located in the Kannawa district, and two in the more remote Shibaseki district.

6Nakasu District
19:15 < DROP OFF > Your Hotel or HATAKA Station, HAKATA Port, KOKURA Station, KITA-KYUSHU Airport in Fukuoka The food stalls in Nakasu start appearing from around 6pm. It's only a short subway ride away from Hakata Station, so if you have the time, why not go there yourself?
