    9:30-9:45 < Historic sites > "Dannoura Battlefield", 21-1 Mimosusogawa-cho, Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi prefecture is famous as the place of the Battle of Dan-no-Ura, known as the last battle between Minamoto and Taira clans. At first, the battle was dominated by the Taira but after the flow of the tide changed, the Minamoto began to dominate. Finally, the Minamoto won the battle and the Kamakura era had begun in Japan. Today, it is called Mimosuso River Park, a city park from where you can get a great view of the Kanmon strait. There is a monument of the Dan-no-Ura Old battlefield site and some great information displays to learn about the battle. There are some handprints by some famous actors who played roles in “Yoshitsune”, the NHK TV drama which was broadcast in 2005.

The temple grounds are called Kozan Park and are centered around the five-story pagoda, a national treasure. Kayama Park is also a famous spot for its cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, azaleas, hydrangeas, and more, and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Historical Parks.

    15:30-16:15 < church > Yamaguchi Xavier Memorial Church, Kameyamacho, Yamaguchi Yamaguchi’s catholic church was built in 1952 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Spanish missionary Francis Xavier’s arrival in Japan. Burnt down in 1991, it was rebuilt in 1998 thanks to citizen’s donations. Its contemporary structure resembles a large tent. The building houses a museum in its ground floor with displays related to Xavier’s life and the development of Christianity in Japan. Find pufferfish and other choice fish at market prices This is both the kitchen and the wholesale market for the foods of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The general public is able to observe the fish auctions as well as enjoy shoping at the market. Amongst the fresh fish of the day, you'll see stalls lined with Yamaguchi's hidden popular fish, rosy seabass; "ara," a kind of high quality white fish caught in the coastal waters, and more.
