Mtskheta and Uplistsikhe
The ancient capital of Georgia - Mtskheta - should be first in the list of mandatory visits. The old city, founded in the middle of the 1st millennium BC at the confluence of two rivers - Aragvi and Mtkvari, is full of samples of ancient architecture.
Near the city of Gori, there is a cave city Uplistsikhe carved into the rock near the Mtkvari River. The city has kept the remains of architectural and religious buildings built over several millennia, and is waiting for the inquisitive people.
Uplistsikhe is the most important monument of Georgian culture, because its unique structure allowed to preserve buildings dating from 2-1 millennium BC. Some parts of the city are still not studied.
Layers of eras, are preserved thanks to the unique design of caves in the rock: wine cellars, bakeries, ancient theater and reception hall.
