What to expect

Experience the dramatic landscapes, charming mountain villages, natural wonders, and spiritual heritage of the lower Mustang region on this carefully designed 2-day journey from Pokhara. The route combines scenic mountain drives with cultural encounters, making it ideal for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Mustang in a short yet memorable trip.

Day 1: Pokhara – Baglung – Tatopani – Rupse Falls – Marpha – Jomsom

Your adventure begins in the morning as you leave Pokhara and travel westward along the scenic route toward the mountains. The drive takes you through Baglung, where the landscape gradually transforms from lush hills and river valleys into rugged Himalayan terrain.

Continue toward Tatopani, a beautiful mountain settlement known for its natural hot springs and dramatic surroundings. From here, the journey leads to the spectacular Rupse Falls, one of the most impressive waterfalls along the route, cascading dramatically through the rocky landscape.

As you continue north, the scenery becomes increasingly alpine. Pass through traditional settlements and arrive at Marpha, a picturesque village renowned for its whitewashed houses, narrow stone-paved lanes, and distinctive Himalayan character. Take some time to explore the village and appreciate its unique architecture and tranquil atmosphere.

The final stretch takes you to Jomsom, the administrative and cultural gateway to Mustang. Surrounded by barren mountain slopes and the Kali Gandaki Valley, Jomsom offers a striking contrast to the greener landscapes of Pokhara.

Day 2: Jomsom – Kagbeni – Muktinath – Scenic Drive to Pokhara

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and spectacular Himalayan surroundings before beginning your journey toward Kagbeni, one of the most fascinating settlements in the Mustang region. Located at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong rivers, Kagbeni is a historic village characterized by ancient alleyways, traditional stone houses, and a distinctly Tibetan-influenced culture.

Continue onward to Muktinath, one of Nepal's most revered pilgrimage destinations and a place of profound spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. Explore the sacred temple complex and experience the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by the stark beauty of the Himalayas.

After visiting Muktinath, begin the scenic drive back toward Pokhara. The return journey follows the Kali Gandaki corridor, offering constantly changing views of deep valleys, rugged cliffs, mountain villages, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes.

Arrive in Pokhara after a rewarding two-day journey filled with nature, culture, spirituality, and unforgettable mountain scenery.
