In Girona you walk one of Europe's best-preserved medieval Jewish quarters, climb the old city walls for views across the rooftops, and step inside a cathedral with the widest Gothic nave in the world. Then we head inland to a walled medieval village where the alleys and squares look much as they did centuries ago.
We finish on the Costa Brava, in a small fishing village of whitewashed houses tumbling down to the sea. You get two hours free to swim in the coves, find lunch on the seafront, or just sit by the water and take it in.
