    It is a rock settlement located 2 kilometers east of Göreme Town. From the 4th century to the 13th century A.D. there was an intense monastic life in Göreme. There are churches, chapels, dining halls and sitting areas in almost every rock block.

    Uchisar Castle

    Uchisar is dominated by a 60 metre high 'castle' which is actually a rock formation visible over a wide distance. Uchisar was first mentioned in a 14th century chronicle by Aziz İbn Ardasir althouh the general area had been occupied from much earlier, perhaps from Hittite times.
