Bayon Temple – The Temple of Smiling Faces: Continue your journey through Angkor Thom with a visit to the impressive Bayon Temple, located at the heart of the ancient city. Famous for its imposing structures adorned with more than 200 serene, smiling faces, Bayon is one of Cambodia’s most iconic and photogenic temples. Its intricate bas-reliefs and mystical atmosphere make it an unforgettable highlight of the tour.
Baphuon – The Temple Mountain: Continue on to the impressive Baphuon Temple, a pyramid-shaped monument once known as the “Bronze Tower.” Built in the 11th century and originally dedicated to Shiva, Baphuon is one of the most important temple-mountains of the Angkor period. Its steep terraces and grand scale offer an excellent insight into early Khmer religious architecture and engineering.
Terrace of the Elephants – Royal Viewing Platform: Stroll along the impressive Terrace of the Elephants, a 350-meter ceremonial platform used by King Jayavarman VII to observe royal processions and public ceremonies. The terrace is richly decorated with detailed carvings of elephants, garudas, and mythical creatures, offering a vivid glimpse into the grandeur of ceremonies of the ancient Khmer Empire.
Terrace of the Leper King – A Mysterious Legacy: Just a short walk from the Terrace of the Elephants lies the Terrace of the Leper King. Named after a moss-covered statue, it is believed to represent Yama, the god of death, or a Khmer king who suffered from leprosy.
Ta Prohm – The Jungle Temple: Step into a cinematic scene at Ta Prohm, one of Angkor’s most iconic and atmospheric temples. Famous for its appearance in Tomb Raider, this 12th-century Buddhist monastery has been largely preserved in its natural state, with massive silk-cotton and strangler fig trees intertwining with the stone ruins, creating a breathtaking “lost in the jungle” atmosphere.
Lunch (not included): Enjoy a Cambodian meal at a nearby restaurant recommended by your guide.
Angkor Wat – The Jewel of Cambodia: Continue your tour with a visit to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world and the iconic jewel of the Angkor complex.
