What to expect

Discover the ancient art of Paubha painting, a sacred Newar tradition deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural history of the Kathmandu Valley. Often mistaken for Tibetan Thangka, Paubha is unique in style and significance, reflecting both Hindu and Buddhist philosophies. This engaging workshop in Patan introduces you to the world of Paubha through a guided session led by skilled local artisans.
During the hands-on session, you'll be guided through the painting process—practicing traditional brush strokes, exploring symbolic use of colors, and understanding the intricate detailing that defines Paubha art. A delicious Newari lunch is included midway, offering a taste of local flavors and a chance to relax. By the end, you’ll take home your own painted Paubha—a unique souvenir and a lasting connection to Nepal’s rich artistic heritage.

Note: Paubha Painting is not just a traditional art but also a deeply spiritual practice. Please follow the artisan’s guidance closely, as personal modifications are highly not encouraged to respect its spiritual value and tradition.
