Ropain creates a lively atmosphere that unites families and the community in fieldwork, allowing for a blend of productive work and playful moments. Amid the activities, there's time for traditional food to recharge.

This festival provides an excellent opportunity to learn rice planting while making lasting memories with the local people. In Kirtipur, a charming Newari town near Kathmandu, you'll discover traditional architecture, cultural sites, and the chance to learn the ancient Newari script, "Ranjana Lipi." Don't forget to enjoy a traditional Newari meal, "Samay Baji," for a complete experience.

Head east from the Narayanhiti Palace Museum. Continue till you see Narayan Hiti Pond to your right and walk on till two blocks ahead. You will find the Community Homestay Network's signboard at the end of a street. Please enter the street and continue straight till you see our office to your left.

    Welcome to Kirtipur Community Homestay

    Upon arrival at Kirtipur Community Homestay, a warm welcome awaits you with a traditional Sagun ceremony, a Newari custom. Following lunch with the host family and a brief rest, you'll explore the town's history, visit temples, and meander through its alleys. In the evening, you'll learn to write Ranjana Lipi, the ancient Newari script, using bamboo pens and ink. Aila, a local beverage, will be sampled. The day concludes with a typical welcome meal and the highlight – a Samay Baji set, offering an assortment of authentic Newari dishes. This experience offers a rich immersion into Newari culture.

    Rice Plantation

    Following breakfast, you'll head to the fields while receiving insights about the festival's significance from the locals. You'll then change into appropriate field attire and be instructed by locals on planting rice seedlings, adopting their methods. In the midst of this, you'll enjoy a customary festival meal, providing a chance to grasp rice planting and create lasting memories with the community. Note: You are suggested to bring a spare cloth, as you shall be playing in the mud with locals in the field!
