The catacombs appeared in Odessa in the beginning if the 19th century as a limestone quarries. Due to the fast development of the city, many buildings were built from this cheap material. As a result thousands kilometers of underground labyrinths stretched under the whole city. In different times, Odessa catacombs served as a refugee place for robbers and criminals, and you will hear intriguing stories about it. Moreover, the catacombs played a key role in the history of the World War II, when the partisans hide there. You will see the Museum of the Partisan Glory during this tour.
