Commissioned by Diego Rivera, in 1931 Juan O'Gorman designed one of the first functionalist buildings in Latin America: a house for the painter and another for his wife Frida Kahlo, where each would have their own studio. It is located in the south of Mexico City and is dedicated to preserving the memory of the muralist and his wife; as well as the study and analysis of his artistic generation.

The site stands out for its extensive collection of pre-Hispanic art, as well as for its Ecological Space that houses endemic flora and fauna. Rivera designed the architectural work in order to protect his vast collection of pre-Columbian pieces, while exhibiting the most beautiful works of this complex in the main building. On display are 16 sketches for different murals made by Rivera in the early 1930s. In them, one can admire the mastery of classical composition learned by the muralist in his youth.
