    Day 2: INTRODUCTORY TOUR OF ACCRA

    After breakfast, we begin our tour of Accra, a vibrant city blending modern and colonial architecture. Our first stop is the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre, dedicated to the famed Pan-Africanist. Next, we pass by Flagstaff House, the president’s residence, followed by a visit to the newly upgraded Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, honoring Ghana’s first president. This 5.4-acre site now includes a library, conference center, synchronized fountain, mini-amphitheater, and picnic area, providing an enriching experience. We’ll then head to the Accra Arts & Crafts Centre, where you can browse and bargain for unique local crafts—Kente cloth, sculptures, jewelry, and more—that capture Ghana’s heritage and artistry. Finally, we visit Independence Square, where Ghana hosts national events, and take photos at the iconic Black Star Square.

    Following a leisurely morning, we depart to Cape Coast in Ghana’s Central Region. This region has had the most significant effect on the lives of Africans in the diaspora. We will make a stop at Mankessim, to visit the Posuban Shrine and Fante Village. From there, we will continue to Cape Coast. Upon arrival, visit Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous “Door of No Return. This evening go on a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina. At the harbor see the colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing.     CAPE COAST | KAKUM | CAPE COAST

    This morning, you will visit Elmina Slave Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure built in sub-Saharan Africa. Next, attend a “Return to the Homeland” ceremony called “fiankra”. This ceremony illustrates how Africans were taken from the homeland without bidding goodbye to their family. It is also an initiation rite for African returnees. This afternoon, you will visit Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds, butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forests with over 40 species of mammals including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Proceed to the canopy walkway. Kakum is home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the treetops, a 1000-foot- long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.     After breakfast, you will check out of our hotel and make your way to Accra. Arrive in Accra in the early afternoon, where the rest of the day is at leisure. Your guide and driver will accompany you to visit the sights you have not yet seen in Accra. A day room is provided where you can rest and refresh before you are transferred to the airport for your flight to South Africa.     Arrive early morning in Johannesburg, where you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, explore Johannesburg and Soweto from the perspective of freedom fighters. Key stops include: Hector Pieterson Memorial, marking where 12-year-old Hector was shot during the Soweto uprisings. Regina Mundi Church, a sanctuary for activists during apartheid; bullet holes from police clashes remain as a poignant reminder. Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the world’s largest hospital, honoring ANC leader Chris Hani. Mandela’s House, showcasing memorabilia, photos, and awards of Nelson Mandela. Freedom Square, where the historic Freedom Charter was adopted.

    After breakfast, we head to Pilanesberg National Park for a safari. The park is home to Africa’s Big Five—lions, buffalo, leopards, elephants, and rhinos—along with a variety of other species like cheetahs, giraffes, and hippos, plus over 360 bird species. In the late afternoon, we continue to Lesedi Cultural Village, stopping en route at a market offering Southern African goods. At Lesedi, you'll be welcomed in the Ndebele village, followed by a multimedia presentation on South Africa’s history and a guided tour through four unique cultural villages, each showcasing local customs and language. The day concludes with a traditional performance and a buffet dinner of African fare, featuring meats like impala and crocodile, at the Nyama Choma restaurant. Return to Johannesburg for the night.

    After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cape Town.     Start the day with a ride on the 360-degree rotating cable car to the top of Table Mountain for panoramic city views. Next, tour the Cape Peninsula, including a visit to a wine cellar. Drive along the stunning Atlantic coastline, passing Clifton, Camps Bay, and Hout Bay, and continue along Chapman’s Peak Drive through Scarborough to the Cape of Good Hope. Enjoy tea or coffee by the iconic signboard, then ride the Flying Dutchman Funicular for views from the old Cape Point lighthouse. Lunch follows at Seaforth near Boulders, then we continue to the Constantia Valley Wine Route for a wine tasting at a selected estate. Conclude with a scenic return drive past the Botanical Gardens to Cape Town.
