One of the most iconic cafés in Coimbra, located right in the heart of the city. This place is special not only because of the food, but because of the space itself. It was built inside part of a former monastery, which already tells you something important about Portuguese gastronomy-history and food are deeply connected.
We’re tasting a selection of small, everyday elements that form the foundation of Portuguese cuisine: cheese, olives, fresh bread, and a small seafood bite-something simple, but very representative of how people actually eat here.
Here we stop to something more filling and more social. Instead of one main dish, we’ll share a few traditional Portuguese petiscos, such as chouriço, pica-pau, and ovos com farinheira. These are small plates, but together they create a full experience.
Here you’ll be tasting chanfana-one of the most traditional and defining dishes of central Portugal. It is usually served as a shared portion, because it is rich, filling, and meant to be experienced slowly rather than eaten quickly.
You’ll be tasting one of the most iconic Portuguese desserts-pastel de nata. Each person will have one portion, freshly made.
