Just 120 km southwest of Arusha, Tarangire’s 2,850 km² savannah and iconic baobab trees provide a spectacular backdrop for spotting Tanzania’s largest elephant herds. During the dry season (June–October), wildlife congregates along the Tarangire River, drawing lions, leopards, and hyenas for dramatic predator–prey encounters.
Next, explore the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area, about 180 km west of Arusha, where the 2,000-foot-deep volcanic caldera hosts the Big Five—including rare black rhinos—plus hippos and Cape buffalo.
Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the famous hippo pool as you watch wildlife roam the lush crater floor.

1Tarangire National Park
After an early breakfast, depart to Tarangire for a full-day game drive in Tarangire National Park with a picnic lunch. Herds of up to 300 elephants scrape the waterless riverbed for alternative streams, while nomadic wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland mass the decreased lagoons. This national park holds migrants during the dry season and is a welcoming home to elephants. We have dinner and our overnight stay at Fig tree Lodge.

2Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today, we’ll wake up early in the morning and after breakfast, we will drive into the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world. The crater is estimated to house 30,000 large mammals. Due to its natural borders, there is an abundance of wildlife throughout the conservation area, which is home to the Big Five, including the African Black Rhino, as well as hyenas, zebras, and elephants, to name a few. After the game drive, we will drive back to Arusha.
