You’ll arrive in Cairo where your day begins with a visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum. The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities—commonly known as the Egyptian Museum or Cairo Museum—houses one of the largest and most impressive collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. With over 120,000 items, it showcases a wide array of treasures, including royal mummies, statues, jewelry, and everyday objects from ancient times. The museum building, designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon and constructed in 1901 by the Italian firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, stands as a historical landmark in itself. While many artifacts are being relocated to the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square remains open and continues to be a must-see cultural destination.
The Giza Pyramid Complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. This iconic site includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, their surrounding temple complexes, and the legendary Great Sphinx of Giza. All of these remarkable structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. In addition to the pyramids, the site contains several ancient cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village that once housed those who helped construct these monumental feats of engineering. The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids ever built in ancient Egypt. For centuries, they have stood as enduring symbols of Egypt in Western culture. The Great Pyramid, in particular, was listed by Antipater of Sidon as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—and it remains the only one still in existence today.
The Great Sphinx of Giza, often simply called the Sphinx, is a monumental limestone statue depicting a reclining sphinx—a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh. Facing directly from west to east, it is located on the Giza Plateau, on the west bank of the Nile River in Giza, Egypt.
we’ll depart for Alexandria in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. Upon arrival, our first stop will be the beautiful Montazah Palace Gardens. Montazah Palace is a stunning complex featuring royal palaces, lush gardens, and a museum. Located in the Montaza district of Alexandria, it sits on a low plateau east of the city center, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. The serene setting and royal architecture make it a perfect introduction to Alexandria’s coastal charm.
The Roman Amphitheatre is one of Alexandria’s most iconic and frequently visited landmarks. As Egypt’s second most important city after Cairo, Alexandria holds a rich historical legacy. During the Roman Empire, amphitheatres were commonly built across regions like Greece, Italy, and Turkey, many of which still stand today. What makes Alexandria’s Roman Amphitheatre truly unique is that it is the only one of its kind ever discovered in Egypt.
The Citadel of Qaitbay, also known as the Fort of Qaitbay (Arabic: قلعة قايتباي), is a 15th-century fortress situated on the Mediterranean coast in Alexandria, Egypt. It was constructed in 1477 AD (882 AH) by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay to defend the city against invading forces. Perched on the eastern side of the northern tip of Pharos Island, the Citadel overlooks the entrance to Alexandria’s Eastern Harbour, occupying the site of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque (Arabic: جامع أبو العباس المرسي) is one of the most prominent and historic mosques in Alexandria, Egypt. It is dedicated to the 13th-century Murcian Andalusi Sufi saint, Abul Abbas al-Mursi, whose tomb lies within the mosque’s grounds. Situated in the Anfoushi neighborhood near the Citadel of Qaitbay, the mosque was completely redesigned and rebuilt between 1929 and 1945 by Italian architects Eugenio Valzania and Mario Rossi. Its elegant design draws strong inspiration from the traditional Islamic architecture of Old Cairo, making it a striking landmark and a spiritual center for visitors and locals alike.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Arabic: مكتبة الإسكندرية), or Library of Alexandria, is a major library and cultural center located on the Mediterranean coast in Alexandria, Egypt. Built as a modern tribute to the legendary ancient Library of Alexandria—lost to history—it aims to rekindle the spirit of knowledge, learning, and cultural exchange that once made the original library a beacon of scholarship in the ancient world. The idea to revive the library was proposed in 1974 by a committee from Alexandria University, which selected a nearby site for the new project. Construction began in 1995, and after an investment of approximately US$220 million, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina officially opened its doors on October 16, 2002. In 2010, it received a donation of 500,000 books from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), making it the sixth-largest Francophone library in the world.
