Experience the awe-inspiring Snow Wall on a day trip to Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. From Nagoya, you’ll travel to Murodo, where towering snow walls, sometimes reaching up to 20 meters high, are carved by snowplows each spring. During the winter, the area is closed due to heavy snow, but as spring approaches, snowplows work for about 2 months to create these massive snow walls. This spectacular sight, only available from April to June, offers a rare opportunity to walk through a winter wonderland as spring blooms around you.
As the travel time by coach is relatively long, the itinerary includes approximately 30 minutes of free time for shopping in Tateyama City both before and after visiting Murodo. This allows you to stay refreshed and enjoy the sightseeing experience in a comfortable pace. The tour then returns to Nagoya, bringing this memorable day trip to a perfect close.
Meet in front of the McDonald's inside Esca Shopping Mall at the West Exit (Taikodori-guchi) of JR Nagoya Station. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled meeting time. The tour conductor will be holding a flag and a placard with the local tour operator's logo.
The bus will stop at a nearby location where it is safe and convenient for passengers to disembark.
After approximately four hours of travel by comfortable coach, with the scenery gradually changing from urban views to the natural landscapes of Toyama, you will arrive at the first stop of the tour, Tateyama City. Here, you can take a short break, stretch your legs, and enjoy the calm local atmosphere. You will also have time to browse nearby shops, where you can pick up small souvenirs or daily items before continuing with the rest of the journey.
After another 80 minutes drive, you will arrive at your second stop, which is the highest point of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, located at 2,450 meters above sea level. Murodo is famous for its breathtaking "Snow Wall," where towering snow corridor rise up to 20 meters high, creating a surreal and awe-inspiring landscape. This spectacular natural phenomenon occurs during early spring, from mid-April to the end of June, when the snow is cleared away by plows, revealing the massive walls of snow. Please note: The height of the snow walls varies depending on the snowfall that year, but the beauty and magnitude of the snow corridor remain impressive. You’ll also have some free time to explore the area and enjoy the serene mountain views. A delicious boxed lunch will be provided, allowing you to savor the flavors of the region while enjoying the spectacular alpine scenery.
After enjoying the snow wall, you will take the bus for about one hour and return to the Tateyama area for another short break and you can buy some souvenirs, or simply relax and reflect on the beautiful scenery you experienced throughout the tour. Please pack light and bring a backpack so your hands remain free during the tour. A rain jacket with a hood is strongly recommended, as it allows you to stay dry without restricting movement, even without an umbrella. Weather conditions in Murodo can be cold and changeable depending on the season, with temperatures remaining low, especially in spring. Comfortable, well-worn walking shoes with good grip are essential, as some areas around Murodo involve walking on snow. On clear days, sunlight reflecting off the snow can be quite strong, so sunglasses and sunscreen may be useful. Temperatures can feel similar to mid-winter, and warm, layered clothing is necessary to stay comfortable.
