After meeting your tour conductor, you will begin your journey north aboard the Tohoku Shinkansen Yamabiko, traveling in reserved standard‑class seating. The bullet train ride offers a smooth and comfortable way to experience Japan’s high‑speed rail system while watching urban scenery gradually give way to countryside and mountains. Upon arrival in Sendai, the gateway city of Japan’s Tohoku region, you will transition to chartered bus travel. *Please note that lunch is not included on this day; guests are encouraged to prepare a meal in advance and enjoy it on the train or on the bus. From Sendai, the bus continues toward Akita Prefecture with a travel time of approximately 210 minutes including rest stops, heading for one of Japan’s most celebrated summer festivals. Important: Final train details, including exact meeting time and train number, will be confirmed 1 week prior to your tour date and sent via Viator chat. Please check your messages for updates.
You will arrive in Omagari, famous nationwide as the stage for the Omagari National Fireworks Competition, an event held annually since 1910 and regarded as the pinnacle of Japanese fireworks culture. From your reserved viewing seat, you will watch elaborate fireworks created by elite pyrotechnicians from across Japan, each competing for national recognition. Approximately 18,000 fireworks light up the night sky, including dramatic starbursts, delicate color gradations, and powerful finale sequences synchronized precisely to music. Unlike casual firework displays, each launch here is judged for craftsmanship, creativity, and timing, making the experience feel both artistic and intensely emotional. The event proceeds even in light rain, though it may be canceled in severe weather. After the fireworks end, riverbank and traffic congestion may delay departure, which is a normal and expected part of attending this nationally renowned festival.
After the event, you will return by bus to Sendai with a travel time of approximately 210 minutes including rest stops, arriving very late at night around 3-4 AM. You will stay overnight in Sendai City at one of the following business‑style hotels: Hotel Pearl City Sendai or Hotel Route‑Inn Sendai Higashi. Rooms are typically Western‑style (single or twin), making solo travelers especially welcome. Please note that even if 2 people book together, the hotel may assign two single rooms, depending on availability. Room assignments cannot be guaranteed in advance. Final hotel assignment will be confirmed approximately a week before departure and sent via Viator chat. Please note that hotel selection and special requests cannot be accommodated.
The following morning, after a short night’s rest, enjoy buffet breakfast at the hotel, which is included in your tour. Hotel check‑out time is 10:00 AM. After checking out individually, you are free to enjoy Sendai at your own pace until your scheduled Shinkansen departure. Whether you prefer a relaxed stroll, local shopping, or a quiet café, the city offers a pleasant contrast after the excitement of the previous evening. Please note that transportation from the hotel to Sendai Station on Day 2 is not included and must be arranged individually at your own expense and may involve a short subway ride. If staying at Hotel Pearl City Sendai: Sendai Station is within walking distance (12-15 minutes). If staying at Hotel Route‑Inn Sendai Higashi: Guests will need to use public transportation, typically the Sendai Subway Tozai Line. Travel time is approx. 11 minutes, and the fare (around 250 yen, subject to change) is at your own expense.
You will rejoin your tour conductor at Sendai Station and board the Tohoku Shinkansen Yamabiko for the return journey.
