The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is renowned nationwide for its immense scale, emotional storytelling, and powerful finale launched over the Shinano River. You will watch the display from reserved chair seating set on firm ground along the riverbank’s left side, allowing you to remain comfortably seated throughout the event. A special bento dinner is included, allowing you to enjoy your evening meal at the venue. Fireworks are launched in dramatic sequences that fill the sky with color and sound, building toward a deeply moving finale that many visitors describe as unforgettable. The event proceeds even in light rain; however, heavy weather may result in cancellation based on the official organizers’ decision. After the fireworks conclude, traffic restrictions and large crowds often cause delays when departing the area. This is a normal part of attending such a major national event.
Following the fireworks, the bus continues toward Shintainai Onsen, a drive of approximately 140 minutes. Due to post‑festival traffic, arrival at the hotel is expected late at night, around 1:30 AM. You will stay at a resort set quietly among nature, offering a peaceful contrast after the excitement of the festival. The hot spring features mineral‑rich waters known locally for their soothing qualities, making it an ideal place to relax after a long but memorable day. Accommodation may be provided in a traditional Japanese‑style room, a Western‑style twin room, or a Japanese‑Western combination room, all equipped with a private bathroom and toilet. Guests can also enjoy access to a large communal bath and an open‑air hot spring, perfect for unwinding in a serene setting. Room type is assigned by the hotel and cannot be selected in advance.
After lunch at the hotel, depart the hotel around 12:30 PM and travel about 40 minutes to Gokaibishi Sake Brewery Resort, an innovative, experience‑focused sake facility that blends tradition with modern design. Here, visitors can explore the world of Japanese sake through exhibits, architecture, and atmosphere rather than formal lectures. The space showcases craftsmanship, fermentation culture, and local pride in a way that is both accessible and visually engaging.
Next, travel about 35 minutes to Hyoko Lake, a tranquil natural setting famous for its seasonal beauty. The lake is especially renowned for migratory birds in cooler months, blooming lotus flowers in summer, and colorful foliage in autumn. Even outside peak seasons, the reflection of sky and trees on calm water creates a peaceful atmosphere perfect for unhurried strolling and photography.
Continue about 25min to Tsukioka Onsen, arriving around 4:00PM. You will stay at Shiratama no Yu Senkei, a distinguished ryokan officially recognized as a 5‑Star Platinum Inn by the Tourism and Economic Newspaper Company, one of the most respected authorities in Japan’s hospitality industry. This celebrated hot spring is renowned for its striking emerald‑green sulfur waters, among the most mineral‑rich in Japan. Often referred to as a “beauty hot spring,” the baths are said to leave skin exceptionally smooth, while the gentle scent of sulfur enhances the traditional onsen experience. Guests can enjoy both a large communal bath and an open‑air hot spring, ideal for relaxing at the end of the day. Accommodation is provided exclusively in traditional Japanese‑style rooms, each equipped with a private bathroom and toilet. Western‑style rooms are not available. Dinner is served as a traditional kaiseki meal, highlighting seasonal ingredients and refined local culinary techniques.
On the following morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel, served either as a buffet or a traditional Japanese set meal, depending on the day. With a total stay of approximately 17 hours, you will have ample time to relax in the hot springs, savor thoughtfully prepared meals, and experience the refined hospitality for which this acclaimed ryokan is known. After departing Tsukioka Onsen, travel about 90 minutes to Yahiko Shrine, regarded as the most important Shinto shrine in the historic Echigo region. Nestled in forested surroundings at the base of Mount Yahiko, the shrine offers a calm and spiritual atmosphere ideal for quiet reflection. Visitors may explore freely, passing through iconic torii gates, wooded pathways, and sacred courtyards while experiencing one of Japan’s oldest spiritual traditions.
Next, travel about 30 minutes to Teradomari, a seaside town facing the Sea of Japan. Famous for its coastal markets and fresh seafood culture, this stop allows you to enjoy a Japanese meal prepared with locally sourced seafood. The salty sea air, harbor views, and connection to daily coastal life offer a glimpse into a different side of Japan beyond major cities.
The journey continues with a drive of about 40 minutes to Tsubame‑Sanjo Station, known internationally as a center of Japanese metal craftsmanship. From here, board the Joetsu Shinkansen Toki in Green Car seating for your return to the Tokyo area. You may disembark at Omiya, or continue onward to Tokyo or Ueno, with arrival scheduled between approximately 5 and 8 PM. Exact arrival station and time will be confirmed in your final tour documents, particularly during peak travel seasons when temporary train services may operate.
