Meet with your tour conductor and walk approximately 10 minutes to the kimono shop, change into a kimono and begin exploring Asakusa from a different perspective. Rather than following the heavily crowded routes around Kaminarimon Gate and Nakamise Shopping Street, this experience focuses on quieter locations known mainly to locals and photographers. Visit peaceful areas such as the Japanese garden near the western side of Senso-ji Temple and the grounds of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, where traditional architecture and calmer surroundings create excellent opportunities for memorable photographs. Enjoy approximately 10 minutes of walking between locations as your tour conductor introduces the area's history and culture.
After approximately 10 minutes of walk, enjoy a hands-on taiyaki-making experience. Learn how to make this traditional fish-shaped Japanese pastry and prepare a variety of fillings. In addition to classic sweet options such as red bean paste and custard cream, guests can also try savory fillings inspired by okonomiyaki, one of Japan's most popular comfort foods. A total of six taiyaki are included, making this experience substantial enough to serve as lunch. Any remaining pastries can be packaged and taken home. During the activity, your tour conductor will also demonstrate tasuki-gake, a traditional method of tying back kimono sleeves while working, allowing you to experience a practical aspect of Japanese culture. Guests requiring gluten-free options may request rice-flour batter in advance. Ingredient information can also be provided before the tour upon request.
After approximately 10 minutes of walk, continue to Kappabashi Kitchenware Street. This famous shopping district is known for its specialist stores dedicated to Japanese food culture and craftsmanship. Browse shops selling professional-quality Japanese kitchen knives, tableware, cooking tools, and the remarkably realistic food replicas often displayed outside restaurants throughout Japan. Accompanied by a licensed tour conductor, enjoy assistance with shopping and gain insight into the traditions and techniques behind many of the products sold here. The tour ends here at approximately 2:30 PM. Walking distance: approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) throughout the tour.
