Tokyo Matcha & Premium Tea Tasting Experience in Asakusa

1 hour (approximately)
Offered in: English

This experience offers a rare chance to explore Japanese tea beyond matcha in a calm, intimate setting. Instead of a formal tea ceremony or a rushed tasting, you’ll enjoy a thoughtfully curated selection of premium Japanese teas while learning their history, flavors, and brewing techniques in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

What makes this experience special is the balance between quality and accessibility. You’ll taste teas that are normally difficult to compare side by side — including gyokuro and Japanese black tea — paired with traditional tea sweets, and learn practical brewing tips you can easily use at home.

With small group sizes and clear, engaging explanations, this experience is perfect for first-time visitors as well as travelers who want to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture. It’s an easy, enjoyable way to slow down, taste something meaningful, and take home knowledge you’ll actually remember.

What to expect

While tasting six types of Japanese tea — matcha, sencha, hojicha, gyokuro, Japanese black tea, and genmaicha — you’ll learn about the history of Japanese tea and how it has evolved over time.

As you enjoy each tea, your host will explain the differences in flavor, aroma, and production in an easy-to-understand way. You’ll also sample traditional Japanese tea sweets, chosen to pair well with the teas and enhance the tasting experience.

During the session, you’ll learn the basics of how Japanese tea is brewed, including water temperature, steeping time, and simple tips you can use at home. The experience is relaxed and beginner-friendly, with no prior knowledge required.

By the end, you’ll not only have tasted a wide range of Japanese teas, but also gained a deeper understanding of their history, preparation, and everyday enjoyment in Japan.
